Health starts at the individual level, care not always necessarily requiring a provider to begin treatment. Efforts can be made to improve mental and physical health through personal applications on smartphones and wearable devices. Mental health apps are widely available on Android and Iphone stores, Calm, or Insight Timer, for example, being a free digital platform rated #1 for stress and anxiety. This app specifically has a live option to engage the user with meditation and spiritual teachers around the world. Fairly easy to use, programs can be stored within the platform for later use. No ability to download sessions, therefore must have internet access.
The Veterans Affairs.gov "app store” links a variety of rated mobile apps for health guidance, for example, on PTSD or mindfulness are mentioned for mental health, VA FitHealth for cardiovascular support, or prenatal resources for women veterans, to name a few. The apps available are open to the public, free and ensure privacy of personal health information. The website is simply laid out with a consumer rating system publicly displayed.
